The information PMI assembled about the actions most likely to contribute to school readiness fell into three domains: health, social and cognitive environments, and the neighborhood environment. For users whose most urgent needs or greatest opportunities lie in one of these domains, PMI has sorted the actions that contribute to school readiness by which of three objectives (or goals) they are most closely associated with.
You have chosen to view the domain of “Children in supportive social and cognitive environments,” which includes actions that improve school readiness rates because they lead to:
- A responsive caretaker and a supportive, cognitively stimulating home
- Child care that is of high quality and connected to other services
- Access to primary services; services to strengthen families, reduce social isolation, and prevent child abuse; and services that respond to child abuse and other crises
- Increased family income and assets and expanded economic opportunities
You can also view actions that lead to:
To the right, you will see an overview of the action areas that contribute to supportive social and cognitive environments and thus to School Readiness. Click on one of these to select the actions you wish to view.
The actions are illustrated throughout by examples of existing programs or strategies that are effective or have the characteristics likely to make them effective in contributing to the outcome. Examples that appear in bold and underlined are described in depth elsewhere on this website; other examples have links to websites where you will find more information.
